On 2 July 2022, Franziska Guggi spoke on the topic abuse of dominance in the funeral industry at the Academic Society for Competition Law’s (ASCOLA) 17th annual conference at Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Porto. She showed that infrastructure such as a mortuary can be seen as an essential facility, meaning that claims of access to such infrastructure can be based on Article 102 TFEU. The panel on dominant firm conduct was chaired by Alexandra Mikroulea (University of Athens), with fellow panelists including Giorgio Monti (Tilburg University), Carolina Saito (University of São Paulo) and Sei Shishido (Yamagata University).
