On 15 October 2024, the WU Department of Information Systems and Operations Management invited to a Roundtable to discuss “Digital Resilience – Checking In on Europe’s Future”. After an introductory talk by Verena Dorner (WU Vienna) on the meaning of and conditions for digital sovereignty and resilience, a panel consisting of Damian Izdebski (techbold), Vicky Robertson (WU Vienna & CLH), Nina Strempfl (ÖBB) and Alexander Windbichler (Anexia) discussed what makes a digital environment resilient, which best practices have proven successful in Europe, and how the legal framework for the digital economy needs to evolve in order to ensure Europe’s open strategic autonomy in the digital sphere. Vicky Robertson discussed recent regulation (DMA, DSA, Data Act, AI Act) and pointed out the aspects in the Draghi Report that can increase European competitiveness – while also underlining the aspects of the Report that should not be followed if Europe wants to ensure a digital economy driven by data protection and a high standard of fundamental rights.
